HIM Operations Support (PRN)

JOB SUMMARY:
The HIM Operations Support role provides advanced support to the Health Information Management (HIM) department while also serving as a key contributor to high-level revenue cycle initiatives. This position offers specialized knowledge, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance data integrity, reimbursement accuracy, and operational efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Degree as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) from an accredited school preferred.
- Computer experience required in windows, spreadsheet and word processing
- Two or more years of previous hospital management/supervisory experience in health information management/medical records preferred
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding principles, HIPAA regulations, and revenue cycle operations.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Thorough knowledge of insurance verification process required
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category III exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in daily HIM operations, including document management, record integrity, and compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Support special HIM projects focused on improving workflows, documentation standards, and department efficiency.
- Collaborate with Revenue Cycle leadership to support high-level initiatives, such as denial prevention, charge capture reviews, audit readiness, and process improvement.
- Provide training and mentorship to HIM staff, including onboarding support and ongoing education on best practices.
- Act as a liaison between HIM and Revenue Cycle departments to streamline communication and align strategic goals.
- Analyze HIM and Revenue Cycle data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support interim operational coverage as needed, including during periods of leadership leave or transition.
- Participate in project meetings, develop action plans, and follow through on deliverables related to HIM and Revenue Cycle priorities.

Leadership Responsibilities in the Absence of the HIM Manager:
In the absence of the HIM Manager, the HIM Operations Support will assume the following duties:
- Manage staff schedules and oversee the timekeeping system to ensure payroll accuracy.
- Communicate and present departmental updates to appropriate stakeholders.
- Evaluate processes and technology, providing recommendations for improvements.
- Provide oversight and guidance to assigned staff, supporting fulfillment of job responsibilities and departmental goals.
- Assist in managing escalated issues as needed.
- Communicate organizational initiatives and updates to assigned staff.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, development, and motivation of assigned staff.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned staff.
- Champion the organization’s vision and values, integrating them into daily operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
