Medical Laboratory Supervisor
JOB SUMMARY
Houston Physicians’ Hospital is looking for a Medical Laboratory Supervisor who will be responsible for supporting our laboratory services with the primary goal of optimizing lab processes. This individual will be responsible for monitoring and tracking the hospital’s point-of-care and moderately-complex lab testing procedures, the blood utilization program, and coordination of off-site testing locations. The Medical Laboratory Supervisor will successfully maintain records of laboratory processes and equipment, and generate reports to submit to the Director of Quality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology required with 4 years generalist experience.
- Certification as Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) or equivalent required
- Experience working in a lab environment preferred
- Working experience operating electrical and non-electrical laboratory equipment
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems
- Ability to work autonomously and under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail; analytical skills
- Process improvement experience
- Certification as Medical Technologist MT(ASCP) or equivalent required
- BLS
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE
Category I exposure to blood borne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Medical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor is responsible for supporting all medical laboratory functions
- The Medical Laboratory Technologist operates and maintains equipment to ensure precise and timely results
- Provide assistance and oversight to the collection of specimens for laboratory testing
- Record and report results accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Maintain equipment and perform the quality control and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and advanced laboratory functions. Perform quality control tests per manufacturer’s recommendations on point-of-care and moderately-complex equipment Assist with testing and calibrating lab equipment in preparation for specific tasks
- Order laboratory supplies and ensure PAR levels are maintained for the facility
- Stay current with compliance and regulatory standards and direct change as needed
- Develop and implement process improvement plans as needed.
- Follow hospital policies and procedures related to lab services
