Scheduling Department Clerk (FT)

SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Surgical Services Resource Supervisor, assists in the planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating the activities in the Scheduling Department by performing clerical and receptionist duties and maintaining the physical environment of the area.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Previous experience working as a department clerk in a hospital setting required
- Proficient in MS Office applications which include Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs required clerical work relating to the scheduling and admission of patients to the hospital.
- Keeps medical record complete and in order. Scans Medical Records into electronic system. Maintains a checklist for missing documents, and communicates with physician offices to obtain required items prior to date of service for both Radiology and Surgery Scheduling.
- Verifies all orders to the schedule to ensure the appropriate procedure is posted.
- Inputs all demographic and insurance information accurately.
- Keeps department supplied with all necessary stationary and other supplies at all times. Participates in economical utilization of supplies and equipment and orders supplies as necessary with cost awareness.
- Assists schedulers with answering the phone and taking messages. Ensures that all messages are communicated timely based on urgency.
- Provides assistance to staff in the organized workflow of daily department operations.
- Responds to patient and surgeon inquiries/comments, referring to appropriate personnel as indicated.
- Verifies and send the final schedule for the following day, paying close attention to detail and ensuring that every patient and order is correct.
